These limitations can cause a person to develop and learn more slowly or differently (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.specialolympics.org\/about\/intellectual-disabilities\/what-is-intellectual-disability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Special Olympics(opens in a new tab)<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When teaching golfers with intellectual disabilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Observe specific behaviours to determine the best teaching strategies and structure needed. Parents, guardians, and support persons may be able to offer valuable insights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accept that trial and error might be the best method for perfecting your teaching plan. Each participant will present skills and abilities differently. Use positive reinforcement to encourage each participant to achieve their own successes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate clearly. Give clear and simple instructions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use visual aids (examples: demonstrations).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give ample time for the participant to respond to questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limit external noise and distractions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be consistent and establish routines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow for repetition of skills and activities throughout the session. Encourage participants to remember things they have already learned and teach them back to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be patient; learning may take time. Allow time for the participants to absorb and respond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adjust instruction by breaking activities down into smaller steps, frequently checking in to ensure understanding, and trying different approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Special Olympics also have many resources and online courses which will help deepen your understanding &#8211;
